How to describe
Northampton? A few words pop to mind, mainly the word, bland. I had never really wanted to visit Northampton but unfortunatly
they were relegated and we didn't go up meaning a trip to Sixfields was inevitable. Infact, I'm not going to beat around the
bush, I hate this ground, there is not one ground that I hate visiting as much as this ground, it is so incredibly bland,
quiet and mind numbling crap that I'd rather travel to watch Lincoln play in the Shetland Islands knowing that we'd lose 5-0.
The trip to Sixfields is a relatively
easy one and locating the ground is also fairly easy. The ground itself, incase you hadn't guessed is very bland, it was
made by the same people who re-made Sincil Bank so you'd expect a similar design and you'd be right. If you imagine City's
CO-OP stand with the lettering taken out and all seats turned purple, and then surround it with stands of similar size to
City's Mundy Stand but take the exec boxes out and turn the seats people, you will have Sixfields. There also a bunch of local
cheapskates who sit on the hill behind the stand behind the opposite goal watching the game through the gaps, that really
pisses me off.
Stewards at the
ground were easily heavy handed and out of control, they threw Ben out for joining in with the "STAND UP IF YOU LOVE THE IMPS"
chant because apparantly it would start a riot which is a load of bollocks. They also tried to chuck the rest of us out for
trying to "create a better atmosphere than the Northampton fans" which wasn't that hard because they were very quiet, even
at 1-0 up.
The atmosphere at
Sixfields is a joke for a supposed "vocal" club. I've heard more noise at a "Monks Appreciation for Silence" meeting. There are few grounds where
you are likely to get less of an atmosphere than Sixfields and the only time I've ever heard them sing, is for about 2 minutes
after they took the lead in the first visit there. Infact, the stewards were acting the same way as some fans in the
top left hand side of the Northampton end, like complete and utter twats. There was a single Northampton fan in a shirt from
1996 or something like that (and this was on both times that I've visited Sixfields) and he didn't actually watch the match
or anything, he just kept trying to taunt the away fans.
I know I haven't
said much on this ground because there is nothing more to say. I have to visit this ground once more but I sincerely hope
I never have to again after this because I have never had an afternoon at a more boring and bland ground and club. There is
no change in hell that I will ever visit this ground for a game that didn't involve Lincoln.
